Kitchen Renovation Process
Congratulations! You are thinking about remodeling your kitchen. This is an exciting upgrade and a huge quality of life booster. The purpose of this article is to give you a general overview of how we approach these types of projects and to offer some important considerations as you begin to think about your new, beautiful kitchen.
Some questions to ask yourself:
How long do I plan to stay in this home?
What is a comfortable investment for me to make for this upgrade?
Why do I want to renovate my kitchen? And why now?
What is working in the space? What is not working?
In my dream of dreams, what would I accomplish in this space that I currently cannot?
How do I want to feel in my new kitchen? (Inspired, calm, energized, proud, etc)
Will I be living through the renovation or leaving the premises during construction?
Many of our clients don’t have answers to these questions when we initially engage with them. We are here to help talk you through options and guide you to the best course of action for your home. Interior design is an intensely personal experience and we consider it an honor to work with our clients on their personal spaces. We have amazing clients, many of whom we now call friends.
Our design process is broken into 3 clear phases.
Phase 1 - Discovery
Phase 2 - Design
Phase 3 - Implementation
Phase 1: Discovery
This is when we get to know each other and deep dive into your hopes, dreams and aspirations for your kitchen. We uncover your functional needs, your aesthetic preferences and establish the scope of work and investment range for your project. We do this by asking LOTS of questions and spending time in your current space.
Phase 2: Design
Design step 1 is Concept and Schematic planning. We establish the spatial plan/flow of the new space and identify the overall mood/vibe. Once the floorplan is in place (possibly with the help of an architect or structural engineer if we are moving walls around) - we then move into Material Selection and Detailing. This is when all of the materials, finishes, and furnishings needed to complete your project are sourced. We present the design to you for approval complete with renderings and samples, so you know exactly what your space will look like when construction is done.
Phase 3: Implementation
We prepare detailed plans for your contractor and stay involved throughout the build. We manage the purchasing, delivery, and installation of all furnishings and soft finishes. We have scheduled touch-ins with your contractor to ensure that the build matches the design intent and we are an integral part of your renovation team to trouble-shoot as things come up (as they always do in construction!).
And voila! You have a new, perfect kitchen tailored just for you.
This is obviously a very simplified version, but honestly we exist to manage the details so you don’t have to.
